EMBERDRAFT
The plain turns its wind every eight seconds and the ash comes with it. Set turbines against the heading that is blowing now, keep the smelter loaded, and survive six rotations before the cinder flats are all you have left.
- 1Place a turbine on any plot the ash has not reached. Its rotor locks to the current heading.
- 2You get 5 budget every rotation. A turbine costs 2, a 90° rotor trim costs 1, a salvage hands 1 back.
- 3Power is the sum of every rotor squared onto the wind. Misaligned rotors make nothing.
- 4At the end of the build window the smelter takes its load. Feed it five of six rotations, and miss twice at your peril.
ORE WORKS No. 4 · WORKS ORDERS
Working the cinder flats.
- The wind turns
- Every 8 seconds the draft swings to a new heading. The rose shows where it blows now; the dashed needle is the heading coming next, which is the only forecast you get.
- Power is alignment
- A rotor squared onto the draft makes its full 3.2. At 45° off it makes 2.0. At 90° off it makes nothing at all, and the load on the smelter drops the instant the wind turns.
- Budget
- Five units land before every rotation. A new turbine costs two and locks to the current heading. A trim turns an existing rotor 90° toward the draft for one. Salvaging a dead rotor hands one unit back and leaves the plot open.
- The ash
- When the window closes the front sweeps in along the heading and burns every plot and every turbine it crosses. Those plots never come back. The front travels deeper and spreads wider every rotation, so the safe ground behind the smelter is what you are really playing for.
- Feeding the smelter
- When the build window closes, the load is read against that rotation's requirement: 3.5 kW on the first rotation, 9 kW on the last. Feed it and the pour continues. Miss twice and the works go cold for good.
THE WORKS ARE HELD
Paused.
The draft, the front and the load are all exactly where you left them.
THE POUR
The smelter is fed.
Six rotations on the cinder flats.
