Gravelight
One lantern, one quarry face, and a seam that moves when you look away.
The lamp you carry reaches fifteen metres and no further. A working seam only answers when the beam is held within a few degrees of it, so you read the rock by walking the light across it. Loose gravel carries underfoot, and the foreman walks his round with a lamp of his own. Three sightings end the shift.
No shift worked yet tonight.
How to work a face
- Walk the beam. The seam glints only when the lantern points within about five degrees of it and you are close enough. Hold E to steady the beam and narrow that to under two.
- Hold the glint. A lit seam needs a moment of steady light before it counts. Break the aim and the hold fades.
- Mind the gravel. Drifts of loose stone are loud. Shift runs loudest, C is quietest, and Space plants your feet and kills the noise at once.
- Dodge the foreman. His lamp sweeps the pit floor. Noise decides how fast he resolves you, so settle before the beam swings your way.
Drag anywhere on the quarry to look around. The arrow keys turn if you would rather not drag.
