She feeds her drum when the deck is quiet.
The deck hangs slack. The flood is ten metres down.
the karn gorge · monsoon season
Thirty metres of rope and a river coming up.
The old rope bridge went out in the night. What is left is the sling deck: a plank hung on two ropes, one drum on your side, one on Sarita’s. You hold the far line. She holds the near one, and she only feeds it when she trusts the deck.
- Haul to shorten your line and pull the deck toward the far bank. Pay out to let it drop and lose ground.
- Brace locks your drum to a set tension for three seconds. Braced, the deck holds steady; braced too long in a gust, it can swing you into the pillar.
- Advise calls a line to Sarita. She takes it when her trust is up, and refuses when it is not.
- Jettison drops a basket into the flood. Lighter loads cross faster and hold a line better, but the baskets do not come back.
- The flood only rises. Cross before it reaches the line and the run is yours.

How the sling works
- W / ↑ haul in, S / ↓ pay out. The deck is a pendulum; both ropes fight it.
- Space or E braces your drum. Hold K to jettison a basket. R to advise Sarita.
- The gust runs on a seven-beat cycle. The band turns red in FRONT — brace or ride it.
