One wax museum · one night · three cases

Pallid

The wax is warm tonight. Open three cases, get out through the Vestibule door, and be there before the shift comes at four. The figures do not move — that is not the problem. The problem is the one that has come down off its plinth.

  • Seen — a guard's lamp paints the floor. Standing in the light is being seen; crouching halves you; standing still is the smallest thing you can be.
  • Hearing — running is loud. Wax carries sound: sprint past a figure and it shivers, and a shiver is a lamp that moves by itself.
  • Remembering — wax keeps the shape of whatever last touched it. Stand near a figure and you leave an outline, and the Pale walks to outlines.
